Before Fuqua
Prior to Fuqua I was an officer in the United States Army Nurse Corps before transitioning into a civilian program manager/ director role with Rural Physician’s Group managing clients in the rural healthcare market.
Why did you choose Fuqua?
I chose Fuqua primarily because of the Team Fuqua culture. Coming from highly collaborative fields in the military and healthcare, I found the community’s emphasis on fostering leadership and teamwork especially appealing. Additionally, Fuqua’s location in Durham’s Research Triangle, which offers exciting and extensive healthcare networking opportunities, played a significant role in my decision.
Why did you decide to pursue the HSM Certificate?
I decided to pursue the HSM Certificate because I wanted to advance my career in healthcare strategy. I recognized that combining Fuqua’s world-class business education with specialized healthcare knowledge would be the optimal way to prepare myself for this field. As a hands-on learner, I was particularly excited about Fuqua’s HSM program, which offers practical experience through healthcare-focused projects and experiential learning opportunities. These elements aligned perfectly with my learning style and career aspirations in the healthcare sector.
What has been your favorite healthcare course or experience at Fuqua?
So far, I’ve had the privilege of participating in two healthcare courses at Fuqua: Health Institutions, Systems & Policy (also known as HSM Bootcamp) and Seminars in Healthcare. Both have provided an excellent foundation in understanding the business aspects of healthcare, and I find it difficult to choose between them. Each course offers unique insights into the healthcare industry, and I appreciate the comprehensive overview they’ve provided. I’m eagerly looking forward to taking more healthcare courses in the Spring semester to further expand my knowledge in this field.
“After Fuqua” = What are your plans after you finish your Duke MBA? After completing my Duke MBA, I plan to pursue a career in healthcare innovation. Specifically, I’m aiming to secure a position with a healthcare startup. This goal aligns with my passion for driving change in the healthcare sector and leveraging the skills and knowledge I’ve gained at Fuqua. I’m excited about the prospect of contributing to cutting-edge developments in healthcare delivery and technology.
